The Master’s Academy of Fine Arts is excited to offer Cordis Academy, a college prep school, to our Master’s Academy, Masterkey Academy, and Portfolio Academy families.Cordis Academy is an academic program that integrates the applicable historical time period with core academic class instruction and an eye toward better qualifying children for advanced education.
The word Cordis comes from the Greek and means - twisting fibers together to makea rope.In Ecclesiastes 4:12 it says that “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” For Cordis Academy the three cords represent the ACADEMICS, the ARTS, and the HEART.
For grades K-5 through 5th, Cordis Academy uses a Unit Study approach to the academics while incorporating a Charlotte Mason teaching style in the classroom. We provide a hands-on, creative environment within the classroom while integrating the fine arts for a complete and well rounded education.Instead of the students merely learning historical facts, they are totally immersed into the historical time period thus encouraging an excitement for learning. We see 6th grade as a transition year and a progression from a Unit Study approach to a more Creative Classical Education approach. For grades 7th thru 12th, Cordis Academy follows a Creative Classical Education approach to learning with a creative twist. The Creative Classical Education approach uses history as a foundation and framework behind all of the academic subjects.Cordis uses a creative classroom teaching style which encourages deductive reasoning skills and engaging student interactions.Students are able to think and express themselves logically in both a verbal and written format. This approach to education helps the student assimilate and retain information for long term use in higher education. The National Standards for each subject matter and grade level are taught while using the Creative Classical Education approach within the classroom.Cordis Academy is a college prep program giving the students a well rounded education by including the study of the arts and academics.
Our teachers provide an adventurous classroom environment in order to engage the students in learning as well as to build the student’s confidence, fostering trust, and encouraging them to become better students.
For students attending K5 thru 6th grade, in the 2009-2010 school year, Cordis Academy along with Master’s Academy will be studying Medieval-Renaissance Period. For students attending 7th-12th grade, the historical time period that will be studied will be Medieval/Renaissance/Baroque Time Periods in correlation with their Arts History class.
Students attending Cordis Academy do not need to be enrolled in Master’s Academy, Masterkey Academy, or Portfolio Academy at the Woodstock or Marietta location.
Cordis Academy meets one day per week and is used in conjunction with attendance in Master’s Academy of Fine Arts, Masterkey Academy, and Portfolio Academy classes (held on a separate day) to give children a well-rounded education. We strongly believe that the fine arts need to be part of the student’s education experience.Students will receive instruction in their core academic classes: Language Arts (writing, literature, grammar, etc.), Math, Science, History/Geography and Foreign Language.Students will receive assignment sheets and sealed testing information for the week at the end of the class day.It is expected that all work and tests be returned the next class day unless otherwise noted.Cordis Academy students may seek accreditation through Ivy Manor (in association with Georgia Accreditation Commission). We will only be accepting 12-15 students per grade level for the fall of 2009.

Doctrinal Statement
We believe that God is one in essence, but that He exists in three distinct and equal persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and that these three have precisely the same nature, attributes and perfections.
We believe that the Bible is the inspired, complete and only Word of God, and that both inspiration and inerrancy extend to every part of the writings as they came from God.
We believe in God as absolute and sole Creator of the universe and that creation was by divine fiat, not by evolutionary process.
We believe that human beings were created by God in His image to enjoy His fellowship; that by their own choice, they decided to rebel against their Creator; that every person since that time has been born with a propensity to sin; that our personal sins cause us to have need of justification and redemption; and that sin is universal and without excuse.
We believe that God, by His sovereign choice and out of love for humanity, sent Christ into the world to save sinners. We believe that we are justified before God simply by placing our personal trust in Christ, and that we are eternally secure in grace from that moment on. However, sin may interrupt the joy of fellowship with God and may bring the loving discipline of our heavenly Father. We believe that there is no way of salvation other than through Jesus Christ.
We believe that Jesus Christ is both God and man; that His death paid a sufficient price to redeem any person who would believe in Him as personal savior; that He rose from the dead bodily; that He ascended to the right hand of God the Father; and that He will return to the earth bodily and visibly to set up His eternal kingdom.
