2009-2010 Master's Academy Staff Regional Artistic Director: Murielle Wasby While growing up, my parents introduced me to the fine arts by taking me to art museums, ballets, operas, theaters, and symphonies in the United States and Europe, and by allowing me to explore the fine arts through various classes. I found myself falling in love with the fine arts and finding different ways to take as many classes as I could when I had the opportunity to. For college, I attended Vanderbilt University where I enrolled in as many fine art classes as possible while pursuing my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and French. Because I was living in Nashville, TN during this time, I was introduced to the very beginnings of Contemporary Christian music. We often went to a small Christian bookstore right near Music Row to listen to the likes of Michael W. Smith, Stephen Curtis Chapman, Amy Grant, etc. They often shared what was on their hearts about making a difference with their music and being able to make it in the secular music world so that they could have an influence on the music world.
As I look back, I realize that these musicians opened a window to my thinking about the fine arts and its possible effects on the world. In 1993, God placed on my heart the need to be able to provide a good fine arts program/classes for my children. At the time we were living in Cincinnati and involved in a small homeschool co-op. I was teaching the children an art class which encompassed teaching them art chronologically, exposing them to the great artists and having a related art project for them to learn how to use different art mediums and incorporating the main historical events of the time periods. My thinking was that we needed to do the same with music and drama. I approached the other teachers in our co-op to start thinking on how we could do this. At this point I started to write an art curriculum. Low and behold, God gave my husband a new job opportunity in Atlanta. So off to Atlanta we went and I set aside my writing the art curriculum as we began our move to Atlanta. It is at this point that I prayed that God would place this vision on someone else’s heart and that they would put a curriculum together. Two years after we had moved to Atlanta, I was invited by a friend to attend a meeting for homeschoolers who wanted to start a fine arts program in the Marietta area. As I listened to Vivian Doublestein (founder) explain Master’s Academy, I understood why God had moved us to Atlanta. The vision God had given me a few years back was Master’s Academy. So since 1997 and with a wonderful staff, I have been able to be involved with Master’s Academy as a director and now a regional director as well as being involved with the Master’s Academy Corporation’s leadership team. We hope to impart in each child that walks through our door a love to glorify God with the talents/gifts that He has given each one of them so that they too can impact and make a difference with their talents. Glorifying God Through Excellence in the Fine Arts! Director: Brandy Marchant A native of Marietta, Georgia, Brandy believes the only way to live life to the fullest is to change the world for Christ. When Christ changed her life and saved her, she saw how the short life we have must be dedicated to Him. Home schooling her four children, while teaching and directing at The Master’s Academy of Fine Arts has been her passion for the past eight years. She has been working with the Master’s Academy since 1999/2000 school year. Brandy started as a teacher’s aide, then mid-year she started teaching history. She continued teaching until 2006 when she moved up to Director the school. She couldn’t leave the classroom totally, so she started teaching History at Cordis Academy in 2006. Assistant Director: Tammy Roth Office Manager: Dawne Pamplin Dawne Pamplin has been with MAFA since 1999 and currently works as Office Manager. She also has a love for the arts and wants to instill that love in all her kids and make it available to other homeschool kids. Dawne is originally from Madison, Wisconsin. Before having children, she was in the US Navy, first teaching at the Naval Nuclear Power School in Orlando, FL, and then working as a Public Affairs Officer at the Nuclear Propulsion Directorate near Washington, DC. Teaching history is wonderful because she gets to explore how God has worked through all the time periods. Putting the pieces of the history puzzle together, now that she is an adult, is so much fun and she always enjoys finding ways to bring history alive for the students at Master’s Academy. Drama: Nicole Crimm Nicole Crimm has a Bachelor’s of Science in International Afairs from The Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master’s of Christian Education from the American University of Biblical Studies. She also has many years of experience teaching children’s Sunday School classes and Vacation Bible School. She worked as a teacher’s aide during her first two years at Master’s Academy. She is now teaching drama and loves it. She enjoys seeing the creativity each student has and helping them bring it out on stage. She loves to see the confidence they gain through out the year as their skills develop and their fears fade away, and she especially loves to see the way their faces light up when they have performed well. She enjoys seeing the different costumes the students come up with for Master's dress up days and enjoys being able to dress up herself with them. The thing she loves the most is being able to interact with the children.
